CNN —In case you’ve somehow missed the biggest news in music this week, Beyoncé released her latest album on Friday, and “Act II: Cowboy Carter” goes out of its way to point out that music genres are overly confining labels. The 27-track compendium contains country music, to be sure, but also folk, gospel, rap, pop and even some Italian opera – and it celebrates Bey’s desire to span beyond any labels or limits. (She even spelled it out in a rare caption on her Instagram ahead of the album drop, writing that “Carter” “ain’t a Country album. This is a ‘Beyoncé’ album.”) The resulting collection is musically rich, lyrically creative and distinctly Beyoncé. Throughout, Beyoncé acknowledges the influence of artists who have come before her, and subverts concepts of country music by connecting past to present.

The researchers confirmed that the black hole is spinning, which causes what is known as the Lense-Thirring effect. “But if you have a rapidly rotating black hole, the space-time around it is not symmetric — the spinning black hole is dragging all of the space-time around with it … it squishes down the space-time, and it sort of looks like a football,” she said. Black holes and galactic historyKnowing the mass and the spin of a black hole helps astronomers understand how the black hole might have formed and evolved, Daly said. However, a black hole that was made with accretion of surrounding gas would see a high spin value. “The question of whether our central galactic black hole rotates or not, or how fast it rotates, is quite important,” Stojkovic said in an email.

New York CNN —The Queen, better known as Beyoncé, had a dress code in mind for Renaissance tour concert goers attending her “House of Chrome,” as she described her concerts. Unprecedented salesAt a pivotal moment during each concert, Beyoncé flicks her wrist and pans out her black handheld fan. A group of fans pose for a portrait before entering Beyoncé's Renaissance World Tour on Friday, Sept. 1, 2023 in Inglewood, CA. “I did not see them becoming my best seller, much less my by-far-best-seller, because of something as random as a concert tour,” Fritts said. That demand was quickly replaced with silver bedazzled shades earlier this month after Beyoncé’s silver announcement.

When Virgo season dawned, Beyoncé — perhaps the world’s most famous Virgo, who named a track on her seventh album, “Renaissance,” after the star sign — had a birthday request. The performer, now in the last month of her Renaissance World Tour, posted a message on her website and Instagram on Aug. 23 encouraging fans to wear silver to her concerts through Virgo season, which ends on Sept. 22. “We’ll surround ourselves in a shimmering human disco ball each night,” the message read. Virgo season together in the house of chrome.”The tour has already been a fashion show, with attendees wearing bejeweled cowboy hats and more looks inspired by the album’s visuals and Beyoncé’s stage outfits. On TikTok, concertgoers posted videos of their original non-silver looks set to audio of high-pitched screaming.

JWST spotted ten galaxies connected by an invisible cosmic filament. This is the earliest filament ever seen of the so-called "cosmic web," a mysterious network that connects the galaxies in our universe. Galaxies are connected by a cosmic webAn artist's impression of the cosmic web, showing how there are invisible areas of high density of dark and regular matter connecting the galaxies in the universe. Peering back into the early stages of the universe can give us a sense of how galaxies appeared within this mysterious network. The ASPIRE team hopes the picture will shed more light on the cosmic web, but it is also very interested in how early quasars were formed in the universe's infancy.

CNN —In the classic 1999 film, “Election,” the high school student government vote has everything: naked ambition, campaign poster shredding, ballot manipulation, infidelity and more. But what the gifted writer Tom Perotta likely couldn’t imagine was an election in which two unpopular candidates square off for president. That doesn’t happen in high school, even in a satirical movie. The president supports stripping that state of its first-in-the-nation primary status in favor of South Carolina, the state that energized Biden’s 2020 campaign. “In the runup to the 2024 elections, Democrats plan to put the Supreme Court on trial,” wrote David Mark.

In two recent interviews, Jerome and key members of the “I’m a Virgo” crew — Maxwell Orgell, production designer; Eric Moynier, cinematographer; and Garth Winkless, puppeteer — discussed the secrets behind the show’s many movie magic tricks, the symbolism of Cootie’s size and why the most antiquated filmmaking techniques are sometimes the most effective. What did you think you were getting into when you signed up for this show? When we met in person a week later, he brought a briefcase that had these figurines of all the characters, including Cootie. Boots Riley doesn’t aim small. In his magnificently batty TV series, “I’m a Virgo,” which arrives on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, the screen may be smaller. “People are always afraid,” his aunt says, “and you are a 13-foot-tall Black man.”As he approaches adulthood, the walls and door frames of the house can’t take the arrangement much longer. Neither can Cootie, who longs to see a world that he’s experienced only through TV commercials and comic books. He sneaks out, makes friends with some young neighbors — they take him on a joyride, Cootie squatting on the car as if it were a skateboard — and meets the world.

Jharrel Jerome Photo: Pete Lee/Prime VideoA blend of screwball comedy and socioeconomic outrage, “I’m a Virgo” might have been written by the team of Harpo and Karl Marx , though it is basically a fairy tale—about a 13-foot-tall black man, cloistered his whole life and then unleashed upon the world. Or, rather, the world is unleashed upon him.

One of Cootie’s first rebellions is his insistence on trying a Bing Bang Burger, whose comically unappealing commercials he sees constantly on TV. It is fastidiously, hilariously committed to the bit, constantly doubling down on the logistics of Cootie’s bigness. “I’m a Virgo” comes on the heels of a few ingenious experiments in TV surrealism, from “Atlanta” to “Undone” to the recent farce “Mrs. Its fantastical concept works in metaphor just the same way it works in fact, as it reminds us with proud bluntness. “I’m a Virgo” is a visual and ideological counterpoint to all this.

CNN —The James Webb Space Telescope set its sights on a galaxy 20 million light-years away, capturing a dazzling star-forming galaxy in images streaked with the signature of passing asteroids. A bright band in the upper left corner of the images shows the bright, bar-shaped center of the galaxy, according to a NASA news release. The NGC 5068 galaxy is a barred spiral galaxy, the same type as our home Milky Way. These new snapshots of NGC 5068 add to a growing repository of data on areas of the observable universe where stars are born. Researchers released a new, clearer image of what they believe the M87 black hole looks like. They developed a machine learning algorithm to provide clearer images of the black hole first released in 2019. The algorithm used data from thousands of simulated black holes to fill in gaps of data that created the 2019 images. The new images, published Thursday in The Astrophysical Journal Letters, could provide important information for scientists studying the M87 black hole and others in the future, researchers said. "Since we cannot study black holes up-close, the detail of an image plays a critical role in our ability to understand its behavior."
CNN —The first photo ever taken of a black hole looks a little sharper now. The central region is darker and larger, surrounded by a bright ring as hot gas falls into the black hole in the new image. The Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration, called EHT, is a global network of telescopes that captured the first photograph of a black hole. Computers using PRIMO analyzed more than 30,000 high-resolution simulated images of black holes to pick out common structural details. But if heated materials in the form of plasma surround the black hole and emit light, the event horizon could be visible.

Four years ago, astronomers released the first ever image of a black hole: a reddish, puffy doughnut of light surrounding an empty, dark hole in the center of the giant galaxy M87, which lies 55 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo. The image made visible what astronomers, and the rest of us, had only been able to imagine: a celestial entity so massive that its gravity warped space-time, drawing matter, energy and even light into its bottomless vortex. The image was released on April 10, 2019, by an astronomy squad called the Event Horizon Telescope, so named for the boundary of no return around a black hole. The new image, they say, will sharpen constraints on how well the black hole in M87 fits with Einstein’s general theory of relativity, which first predicted the existence of black holes. Dr. Medeiros and her colleagues published the new image on Thursday in Astrophysical Journal Letters.

The Inflation Reduction Act, recent share underperformance and an attractive valuation all make Wallbox a buy, Bank of America said Thursday. Analyst Alexander Virgo upgraded the Barcelona-based maker of home electric vehicle chargers to buy from neutral. "With the passing of the Inflation Reduction Act in the US, Wallbox is now well positioned to benefit from the US charging infrastructure expansion," Virgo wrote. Earlier this year, President Joe Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act. Virgo said Wallbox is lagging its EV charging peers by more than 10%, adding that the stock trades at an enterprise value-to-sales multiple of 1.4.
Here are the known and unknowns so far:WHO'S IN THE PRICE CAP COALITION? Britain said Thursday it could ban countries from using its services to transport Russian oil purchased for a price exceeding the cap. WHAT WILL THE PRICE CAP LEVEL BE? Moscow could end up cutting production as a result, which would apply upward pressure on global oil prices. Worries about potential sanctions, even if unfounded, can cause traders to avoid deals, another factor that can boost oil prices.
REUTERS/Bjoern Kils/File PhotoSINGAPORE, Sept 26 (Reuters) - A U.S. Treasury official has ruled out secondary sanctions to enforce a price cap mechanism on Russian oil exports despite a proposal last week by U.S. senators. Wolfram said the authorities will release full guidance on how the Russian oil price cap will be implemented before European Union sanctions on Russian crude exports take effect on Dec. 5. read moreThe price cap will apply to Russian crude oil in every trade, but not refined products that have been produced from Russian crude, Wolfram said.
